Kevin West

VP, General Counsel, Patent Counsel, Advisor and Board Member

Kevin West serves as the general counsel and patent counsel of Falcon Power. Kevin is a founding partner of Advent LLP in Omaha, Nebraska and has over 20 years of experience as a patent attorney where he specializes in the management and protection of intellectual property rights for some of the largest companies in the world. His practice includes managing the development and maintenance of patent portfolios, preparing and prosecuting United States and international patent applications, drafting opinions of counsel for patent infringement and invalidity, product clearance, right to use, state of the art, freedom to operate and patentability, and performing due diligence in connection with product development, licensing and design around strategies. Kevin also handles appeals before the USPTO and post grant review proceedings, such as supplemental examination, ex parte reexamination, reissue, post grant review, and inter partes review (IPR).

Kevin has experience in a wide range of technology areas, including: motors and generators, power tools, pneumatic tools, air compressors, mechanical systems, hydrodynamic systems, aerospace systems, HVAC systems, manufacturing and automation technologies, robotics, radar, antennas, detection systems, chemical analysis systems (trace element detection, spectrometry, spectroscopy), security, data collection and storage, computer hardware and software, integrated circuits, human interface devices, medical devices, oil and gas technologies, industrial control systems, and Global Positioning System (GPS) technologies.

Before founding Advent, Kevin served as the chief intellectual property counsel for Garmin International in Olathe, Kansas, and was a partner in an intellectual property law firm Suiter-West-Swantz PC LLO in Omaha. Prior to practicing law, Kevin worked as an engineer at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, Missouri for over 7 years.
